Yose 寄席 were the variety halls of Edo-period Japan, where crowds packed in for rakugo storytellers. The posters outside were painted in yose-moji, heavy lettering drawn so thick and tight there's barely a gap between strokes, for a full house with no empty seats. This is No. 5 of our five Yose tees: Yokohama and its virtue, 信 Trust.

On the front, 信 sits large with 横浜 (Yokohama) underneath, inside a framed hall poster with a border of twisted rope, for the harbour and because a rope only holds when every strand does its part. Down the back, ヨコハマ (Yokohama in katakana) runs top to bottom in a tall panel, with 其ノ五 · 五都五徳 · 5C5V underneath: No. 5 of Five Cities, Five Virtues. A cream frame and cream lettering on a navy shirt. Made to order, sizes S to 4XL.

Fit note: Oversized and boxy with dropped shoulders. Take your usual size for the relaxed look, or size down for a closer fit.

Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colours. Do not bleach. Hang or lay flat to dry and never iron directly over the print.
