A baseball diamond drawn in navy line, with 1872 in red on the mound. 夢 in navy on the left side.

Baseball reached Japan in 1872, when Horace Wilson, an American teacher at Kaisei Gakkō in Tokyo (today the University of Tokyo), showed the game to his students. Everything that came after, Kōshien, the pro leagues, the players who went on to the majors, starts on that field. So the year sits where the pitcher stands. 夢 (yume) means dream, Tokyo's virtue in Five Cities, Five Virtues.
