Fisherman or cuffed: how to choose a beanie

There are two kinds of beanie here, the fisherman beanie and the cuffed beanie, and the difference is how they sit.

A fisherman beanie is the short one. It has a wide rib and a snug, cuffed fit that sits above the ears, so your ears stay uncovered. Mine are acrylic knit and come in petrol blue, walnut, cypress, athletic heather and ecru, in each of the five cities.

A cuffed beanie is the deeper, classic shape. Wear the cuff folded for a close fit, or pull it out for some slouch. The city versions come in navy, light blue and light grey, and most are 100% organic cotton, which the product pages describe as lightweight and breathable. The Originals beanie is an acrylic rib knit, 30 cm long, with the 5C5V Mt Fuji logo embroidered on the cuff, in black, navy, spruce, heather grey, white and red.

How to choose: fisherman if you want it short and neat, cuffed if you want your ears covered. Every beanie is one size and stretches to fit most heads.

Each city beanie belongs to one virtue: 希 (ki, hope) for Sapporo, 夢 (yume, dream) for Tokyo, 和 (wa, harmony) for Kyoto, 力 (chikara, strength) for Osaka and 信 (shin, trust) for Yokohama.
