KIROKU Sumi 004 — First Light 信 White T-Shirt

Record 004 from KIROKU 記録 is Yokohama, and Yokohama's virtue is 信, Trust. On the evening of 31 October 1872, Japan's first gas street lamps were lit in Yokohama, along Bashamichi and Honmachi-dōri. The gas came from a new works at Iseyamashita, built by the merchant Takashima Kaemon with the French engineer Henri Pelegrin. People came out just to stand under them. Japan still keeps 31 October as Gas Day.

The back is four gas lamps running down Bashamichi in sumi ink, each with an amber glow, a lone figure beneath them and 信なくば立たず: without trust, nothing stands. 横浜 and the 信 seal sit on the left chest.

Fit note: oversized and boxy with dropped shoulders. If you prefer a closer fit, size down.

Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colours. Do not bleach. Hang or lay flat to dry and never iron directly over the print.
