A 銭湯 (sentō) is a neighbourhood public bath. You pay a few hundred yen, scrub down, then sink into water that's hotter than you'd think. When it's open, a short split curtain, a noren, hangs over the door with one character on it: ゆ (yu), hot water. You duck through the gap to go in. That curtain is the whole design.

It's a low-profile, unstructured baseball cap in 100% cotton fine-wale corduroy, soft from day one, with a gold-colored buckle on the strap at the back. No.06 of seven in the 5C5V corduroy series. Available in Black, Olive and Brown. Made to order, and US orders are made in the US.

Good to know

What does ゆ mean? Hot water. It's hung on the noren curtain over the door of a sentō, a Japanese public bathhouse, to show it's open.

Is corduroy warm in summer? It's 100% cotton, so it breathes. Fine-wale corduroy is soft and light, and it's at its best from fall through spring.

What does 5C5V stand for? Five Cities, Five Virtues: Sapporo 希 Hope, Tokyo 夢 Dream, Kyoto 和 Harmony, Osaka 力 Strength and Yokohama 信 Trust. The corduroy series is the everyday side of Japan, the small things you only notice once you've lived there, numbered No.01 to No.07.

Is it embroidered or printed? Embroidered in royal blue, white and old gold thread. The front is about 2.51″ × 1.66″ (6.4 × 4.2 cm), and the back is 1.75″ × 0.74″ (4.4 × 1.9 cm).

How does it fit? One size fits most, with an adjustable strap at the back. It's unstructured and low profile, so it sits close rather than tall. It fits heads from 20″ to 22″ (50.8–56 cm).

How do I look after it? Spot clean with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent, then let it air dry. Don't put it in the washing machine.

When will it arrive? It's made for you after you order: 2–5 business days to make, then 4–8 business days for US delivery or 2–6 business days for the UK.

Do you ship to the US? Yes. US shipping is $5.95 flat per order, however many items are in it. Your cap is made and shipped from inside the US, so there are no import duties or customs charges to pay.

Can I return it? Yes. Wherever you ordered from, you have 30 days from delivery to send back unworn, unwashed items. Swapping for a different size is no problem at all. A fault or embroidery problem is always on us.
